Swords Pavilions teams up with Irish Autism Action in fundraising drive
SWORDS PAVILIONS, one of Dublin’s premier retail destinations, has announced that it is to team up with Irish Autism Action as its adopted charity for 2009 in an attempt to raise much-needed funds for the organisation whose Patron is Boyzone star, Keith Duffy.
The announcement was made today at a launch in Swords Pavilions where Keith Duffy was joined by Ian Hunter, Centre Director, Swords Pavilions along with friends of Irish Autism Action including Irish model, Ruth O’Neill.
Irish Autism Action was founded as the Irish Autism Alliance in 2001 by a group of parents who took a public stance in relation to the needs and rights of their autistic children. The charity is an umbrella body representing parent groups, support groups and schools across Ireland. Its mission is to raise the quality of life of individuals and their families affected by autism through ensuring the provision of the highest standards in education, care, support, employment, and equality of living opportunities.
Speaking at today’s launch, Ian Hunter, Centre Director, said: “Irish Autism Action is an extraordinary organisation which contributes hugely to the lives of many individuals across the country. We are delighted to be able to play a small part in contributing to the work of Irish Autism Action through adopting it as our chosen charity for 2009 and we look forward to working with Keith and the charity over the coming year to raise the necessary funds.”
Kevin Whelan CEO of IAA said: “We are delighted with this partnership with Swords Pavilions as not only will it raise valuable funds for our work but it will enhance the public’s awareness of the needs of families affected by autism in our community.”
To celebrate the launch, a Harley Davidson ‘Ultra Classic Electra Glide’, which will feature artwork by renowned Irish artist Rasher, began its nationwide journey at Swords Pavilions today. The Harley will be auctioned to raise funds for Irish Autism Action and can be seen at various locations around the country over the coming weeks.
