Laois Offaly Families for Autism (LOFFA) is a local support group run by parents for parents and families of children with Autism
LOFFA exists to provide support, encouragement and information for those whose lives are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), by sharing information and experiences, offering an understanding environment and the opportunity to meet others living in similar circumstances
LOFFA offer support in a variety of ways to children and their parents, everything from a simple chat, to providing subsidised access to Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapist for those families who are forced, through lack of HSE services to obtain private therapies for their children.
Organised and run by a small group of volunteer parents, LOFFA actively campaign to raise awareness of ASD in our area and seek health, educational and support services that are appropriate to meet the needs of children with ASD.
LOFFA organising social activities (Junior Playdate, 10 Pin Bowling, Autism Friendly Cinema Club) every month for the children and their siblings, giving them the opportunity to meet and socialise with other children like themselves in a safe and non-judgemental environment.
LOFFA has been in existence for over 10 year. Originally set up with approximately 20 families, today numbers have swollen to over 300 in the Laois/Offaly area and membership continues to rise.
LOFFA receives no funding from any governmental body, so are required to continuously fund raise in order to provide the support given to local families.
Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month (Sept - June) alternating between Tullamore Court Hotel and Portlaoise Heritage Hotel.
