Autism West Cork
Autism West Cork is a self help group of parents in the West Cork area. The group
was formed in 2009 to help the parents/guardians of young people with an Autistic
Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis and the young people with such a diagnosis.
Our main Objectives are:
Parent/Guardian/Family Support : to provide help, guidance and support to
parents, guardians and families affected by Autism.
Awareness : to promote a greater knowledge and understanding of Autism and related
conditions such as Asperger Syndrome
Recreational, Educational and Intervention Support : to provide recreational opportunities
for young people with an ASD diagnosis and their families, often of a nature which they
may have difficulty in accessing without special help, and to lobby for and (hopefully)
eventually fund increased services (both of an educational and interventionist nature).
Autism West Cork is a member of Irish Autism Action (IAA), the national umbrella group
with over 30 member groups. Through IAA we advocate and lobby on a national level to
ensure better service provision to people with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
